Iphoneciscosettlement

Cisco and Apple® today announced that they have resolved their dispute involving the “iPhone” trademark. Under the agreement, both companies are free to use the “iPhone” trademark on their products throughout the world. Both companies acknowledge the trademark ownership rights that have been granted, and each side will dismiss any pending actions regarding the trademark. In addition, Cisco and Apple will explore opportunities for interoperability in the areas of security, and consumer and enterprise communications. Other terms of the agreement are confidential. This is great news for Apple but also for Cisco. The company really wanted to have a partnership with Apple on future interopability of their respective products. Apple is not a company that likes to be tied-up with a partner but I guess they didn’t have the choice on this one.  But nobody can tell if we are going to see anything coming out of this collaboration.

Apple’s marketing departement must feel relieved with this announcement. They can now deploy all their marketing strategy without the fear of having to change the name.
