UPDATE JUNE 9, 2008: If you end-up on this page, it’s probably because you would like to preorder an iPhone 3G. Right? Well, don’t hold your breath on this one! The first generation iPhone could not be preordered, and it’s very unlikely that the second generation iPhone would be. To add to that, we’ve learned that iPhone 3G will have an in-store activation procedure.
As always, stay tuned to our feed for the latest information on this. Not a big RSS fan? No problem, if this is more convenient to you, subscribe by email.
If you thought you could pre-order an iPhone in the comfort of your home, well you might want to forget about it right away. AT&T issued an internal memo that says that no pre-orders will be allowed for the iPhone. The iPhone sale will be done on a first come, first serve basis. I guess the people at Apple and AT&T want to create real iPhone madness for the summer.
The memo also says that the iPhone will be released sometimes in June, but no fixed date has been announced yet.

I was able to reserve one at an AT&T store… though I don’t think that they were supposed to do that… Oh Well, At least I have one reserved, and at the Apple Store in they said you were able to reserve one if you had a buisness account with AT&T…

I spoke with AT&T today and they stated that AT&T won’t even be selling the phone, that the phone will be sold @ Apple stores or Apple.com.
The Apple store that I spoke with stated even if you are a business customer they’re taking reservations.

So here’s my question: Do we KNOW that EVERY at&t branded store (not the authorized dealers, obviously, but the actual stores) will actually get at least ONE iPhone on the 29th?
Here’s why I ask:
-we’re know they’re sending more to places where they expect to sell more…does that mean that some places get zero on iDay?
-I just called the manager of my AT&T store here in Galveston, TX. He said he was ‘not allowed’ to either confirm or deny that they’d any iPhones on the 29th. He DID say that they’d be shutting down at 4:30, etc., but he would not tell me whether that meant they’d have anything to sell at 6PM, even when I pressed him.
All I want is whether I need to leave Galveston on the afternoon of the 29th and drive to Houston or not.

Visual Voice mail is great for folks like me and my mom whose eyesight makes it hard to see the displays on most cell phones. Can I afford 2 phones? hmmmmmmm

Avoid the scams, my gadget loving early-adopters! Seen a number of fake sites to “pre-order” iPhones that will gladly take your money.
The fact is, the new iPhones will only be available in a retail environment and yes, they will require to be activated at the time of purchase–Apple’s not so brilliant idea–to avoid “unlocked” phones floating around on eBay. The activation takes 10-15 minutes…So…It’s going to be a madhouse at retailers.
My best advice to get your hand on one early, is to take advantage of the time you have available between now and the drop date of July 11. Get in the Dojo and brush up on your self-defense training, get in shape, take your vitamins and prepare for battle. Remember the Cabbage Patch craze in the 80’s? Yea? Well the launch of the iPhone is going to make that look like an etiquette class.
Let’s be careful out there!

I ordered my iphone 3G *Foams at the mouth* Yes my friends, in 1 week I will be attached at the thumbs to my new best friend, the iphone 3G. I preordered mine and I cant wait to see the new features it has. The best feature the 3G iphone has is the $$price$$ & 2x the speed. But hey who am I kidding I’ll probably just sell the darn thing on Ebay for $700.00. Later
