Just like if this iPhone was not hot enough! Apple announced a more powerful iPhone battery sooner than expected. What do you think of 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of internet use, 7 hours of video playback and 24 hours of audio playback? Want more? Oh yes, standby time is 10 days!
Of course, these numbers are the "best cases">case scenario" and real life battery duration can vary a lot. If you want to know more about battery duration, Apple has interesting information on iPod and iPhone batteries on their website.
You thought the plastic screen would be easy to scratch? You were right, but Apple just upgraded the iPhone plastic screen protector to a optical-quality glass. Great! The iPhone is getting better and it’s not even release yet.
Check the other chart after the jump to see the devices Apple likes to compare the iPhone too. This chart alone can start a week long debate on the real iPhone competitors.
If this sounds too good to be true, here’s the official press release:
Apple today announced that iPhone(TM) will deliver significantly longer battery life when it ships on June 29 than was originally estimated when iPhone was unveiled in January. iPhone will feature up to 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback or 24 hours of audio playback.* In addition, iPhone will feature up to 250 hours-more than 10 days-of standby time. Apple also announced that the entire top surface of iPhone, including its stunning 3.5-inch display, has been upgraded from plastic to optical-quality glass to achieve a superior level of scratch resistance and optical clarity.
"With 8 hours of talk time, and 24 hours of audio playback, iPhone’s battery life is longer than any other ‘Smartphone’ and even longer than most MP3 players," said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. "We’ve also upgraded iPhone’s entire top surface from plastic to optical-quality glass for superior scratch resistance and clarity. There has never been a phone like iPhone, and we can’t wait to get this truly magical product into the hands of customers starting just 11 days from today."
iPhone introduces an entirely new user interface based on a revolutionary multi-touch display and pioneering new software that allows users to control iPhone with just a tap, flick or pinch of their fingers. iPhone combines three products into one small and lightweight handheld device — a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod, and the Internet in your pocket with best-ever applications on a mobile phone for email, web browsing and maps. iPhone ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, which completely redefines what users can do on their mobile phones.

Hopefully those batteries are not as “reliable” as the one in my ipod. I had to have it replaced and since it is not removeable I had to buy a new ipod since the cost was ridiculous (plus they would have shipped it somewhere and I couldn’t be w/out my phone if that is the case). That means if you had 4GB of songs on a iPhone and the battery goes bad and you need to replace the entire device you’ll have to download all the songs agaion since the memory is not removeable either. Same thing goes when you want to upgrade your phone (I update every 2 years). I think I’ll hold out until they get a removeable battery and removeable SD card.

Not sure if I want to have my ipod locked into a 2 year contract. If it was on their 3G network then maybe but how pissed are you going to be when they launch a highspeed (c’mon, EDGE is NOT high speed) iPhone in 6 months and you still have to wait 18 months for your contract to come up.
