The guy sitting in front of Apple Store on Fifth Avenue is nothing more than a Pro linesitter. His name? Greg Packer, a maintenance worker from Huntington, New York. According to his Wikipedia webpage (Yes, he does have a page!), Packer was the first in line for the Ground Zero viewing platform opening, He was the first in line in 1997 to sign the condolence book at the British consulate when Princess Diana died. He slept outside in the snow in Washington in January 2001 to be the first in line to greet President George W. Bush after his inauguration.
His Wikipedia page has already been updated with is iPhone sit-in. We can read "Greg
Packer is first in line to purchase an iPhone at the Apple Store Fifth
Avenue, New York. He has been camping out in front of the store since
5:00 am on Monday, June 25, 2007. Packer subsequently has made himself
more widely known because of his latest endeavor by waiting in line for
the long anticipated iPhone. This latest feat by Mr. Packer has
generated more publicity while waiting for the multi-functional device
by appearing in several prominent national newspapers, subsequently
directing readers to his Wikipedia entry." Sick? You bet!
What is so
funny about this, is that media from all over the country a paying
attention to a guy that does not even care about iPhone! Is he going to
buy one? Can he sell his place at the last minute? How much would you
pay to be able to get there at 5:55PM and buy your iPhone 5 minutes
later?
