Most of us were quite disappointed when Jobs announced that third party applications would be possible on the iPhone only through the Safari browser. But many iPhone enthusiasts still think it’s worth it.

All types of iPhone applications are popping on the Internet these days. There are even sites that are just listing the applications available for the iPhone. Some of them are just concepts for now, others are brand new ideas and a few are adapted versions of mobile enable websites.

There are already a few good ideas out there. iPhone Digg and iPhoneChat are worth the click and I also liked the Onetrip Shopping list for the iPhone.

I’m sure we are going to see literally hundreds of those in the near future. And the site with the best rating and user feedback system will take the lead in listing the iPhone applications.

The thing that really bugs me is when it’s time for Apple to create applications for the iPhone, they choose to have it built-in the iPhone (i.e. Google Maps and Youtube). This is somehow the confirmation that really well integrated third party applications would have to live inside the iPhone and not on a web server.
