First, don’t rush to the nearest AT&T store because not all of them will carry the iPhone. According to the memo, the iPhone will be initially available in Apple stores, Apple.com online store and "selected" AT&T stores. We don’t know which ones and how many stores will carry the iPhone, but the way the memo this memo reads, it sounds like most of the AT&T stores will be left without the "so much anticipated gadget". From an availability standpoint, this is good news. If Apple does not have to send the iPhone to an astronomic number of retail locations, supplying the iPhones to the stores will be a lot easier.
But the memo also suggests that iPhone owners will be eligible to AT&T’s FamilyTalk. The plan allows for cell phones users to share their minutes between several lines.
Here’s the description from AT&T’s website:
Share minutes and save. Get the first two lines for one low price. Each additional line is just $9.99 per month.
- Unlimited Night & Weekend minutes for all lines
- Unlimited Mobile to Mobile (M2M) calling customers nationwide
- You never pay roaming or long distance
- All lines share Rollover® Minutes
We still don’t know a lot about the plans we will have to subscribe when and if we will buy the iPhone. But a recent internal AT&T memo revealed a few details we haven’t heard before.
