There’s a lot of iPhone bashing going on right now. The victim is in fact the non-existing iPhone mechanical keyboard. People are arguing that without a mechanical keyboard that gives a feedback to the user, iPhone users won’t be able to type as fast as they do on their Blackberry for example. Thus, business people won’t adopt the iPhone.
Apple’s executives already said that a few days were necessary to become comfortable with the device. This is perfectly normal for any new type of devices.
The first week I had my first Blackberry was a real nightmare. I really thought I would never be able to write a mail on such a tiny keyboard. But you know what, after only ten days I was perfectly capable of writing long mails. After a few months, using the Blackberry was like a second nature for me.
What I mean is how can we judge a user interface we haven’t tried yet? Yes, the mechanical response is an important factor and users will have a hard time without it at the beginning. But the iPhone is not just a touch screen. It’s a multi-touch interface with gesture recognition. The mechanical response is gone but the screen gives back more than a mechanical keyboard would ever be able to give back.
The mechanical keyboard is not what would stop Apple from reaching the business people. The lack of a full integration program is what really missing. RIM does it for the Blackberry and this is why they have so much success with business people.
Look at Microsoft Surface technology. No keyboard. Many types of keyboard-less devices will appear on the market. Surface and the iPhone mark the beginning of a new era. We better get use to it! No?
I will at least give it a try!

Bullshit. It’s a fake argument to say the screen is ‘multitouch’ and that will somehow solve all your problems of not having tactile feedback.
Don’t give the iPhone devine powers: marketing is not *that* powerful.

yeah, good job on those “great” prices….. bleh!… the iPhone is a fashion statement. This is the US, and that is why marketing is that powerful.. the drones drop pennies like they do brain cells.

The new Apple iPhone will be inadequate for my needs – but I’ll still take one – if someone gives me one to try out. I doubt if it will sell more than a few hundred – million, billion, whatever. Its screen appears too small for my serious internet surfing. And it won’t even brush my teeth – oh, wait a minute. It does vibrate, doesn’t it?

i think that the iphone keyboard is fantastic. Yes, it takes several hours, not days, to get used to for most people. my mom even was able to start typing on it pretty quickly. the internet surfing is great and the overall interface is fantastic. yes, it has flaws and it’s not perfect, but i haven’t had to trick it into talking to my mac like i have my windows mobile and palm pda phones of the past. i had a treo as my last phone and i can’t believe how amazing the interface is on my iphone in comparrison.
but then again, i’ve always been an apple fanboy… so take my comments with a grain of salt.
besides, if youre here to bash an iphone, how did you find this site anyways??? “iphonefreak”

I don't know why people don't like the keyboard so much… just turn it on it's side if you find the keys to close that its hard to hit, then start typing with two thumbs. I will admit you cannot hold your finger down on each button so you can't do it by feel, but it corrects most of the words if you accidentally miss spell them, so it kind of makes up for it… you just have to be looking at the phone while you type.
I tried to type something on my friends blackberry… to do a symbol… like a keyboard it wanted me to hold down shift or alt then press the letter it has attached to it… It was virtually imposable to do it while the two where right next to each other. <- One problem I've never had with an Iphone that could not be resolved with deleting a few letters, or hoping the end of the sentence will realize and correct it.
