Blackfriars Communications compiled data from Google News to create the iPhone Buzz Index. According to the chart, the Buzz Index is even stronger than it was three weeks ago when the iPhone was officially launched.
But the index is based only on the number of stories found on Google News. This may well represent how hard bloggers and web publishers are fighting to get the consumer’s attention, but it does not really represent the real “Consumer” Buzz. We took that from a different perspective and created the “iPhone – Consumer Buzz Index” by compiling the “unique pageviews” served by iPhone dedicated websites like iPhonefreak to have a better understanding of the real iPhone “consumer” buzz. After all consumers are making the buzz, not the editors.
If you look at graph, you will see a completely different story here. The peak of the buzz is now where it should be, seven days before the launch and seven days after. The buzz is still strong today but it’s maintained partially now by the iPhone application lists used by iPhone users currently discovering the possibilities of their new gadget. When we removed the iPhone Application lists from the data, the drop since the launch was stronger but it’s still follows the same trend.
Since the present week is not over yet, we’ve made an estimate for the 3 days missing.
Our Consumer Buzz index is completely different from the one compiled by Blackfriars communications:
The data used to create the iPhonefrea Consumer Buzz Index is from the weekly stats available on iPhonetopsite.
