A Real VoIP Solution for the iPhone?

Thu, Sep 27, 2007 | by Stéphane Dion

Hacks, iPhone News

We’ve seen a few alternatives to use the iPhone as a VoiP phone, but none of them were 100% real IP and simple to use solutions.  But according to Truphone, this is about to change. The company demonstrated their new software at DEMOfall 07 in San Diego. As reported by Engadget, Truphone CEO James Tagg was able to call another mobile phone using only an IP connection.

The software is still in Beta, but a simplified version that will allow SIM to WiFi switching will be available soon. The company said that no SIM unlocking is necessary to use their software.

This sounds really exciting, and since this software use Wi-Fi and not Edge, it is totally legal according to AT&T’s terms of use

Fantastic site, I really like your writing style. Very distinctive and to the point. On a lot of blogs people just drone on and on, but not you – very nice. Keep up the great work! I find Voice over IP very interesting. I have learned a lot in implementing a small VoIP network at home, and am thinking of starting VoIP business in my area. There are a number of small businesses in my region that would benefit from it greatly.
