Well, most of us are really impressed by the new iPod Touch announced yesterday. Safari browser, iTunes Wi-Fi Store and Youtube app built-in, Touchscreen, sensors, cover flow and more. iPod Touch is also possibly a Bluetooth enabled device! But what about
iPod Touch hacks? What a great idea! How many days do you think it will take before the first iPod Touch hack is announced? 1, 2, 4, 10 days after the release?
What would be your Top 3 iPhone Touch Hacks?

September 7th, 2007 at 1:31 am
My number one hack wish would be for a much bigger hard drive. 16gb is nothing. Half of my music alone would fill that drive. Not to mention how much space video takes up…
my second hack would be to integrate with exchange servers so I could use it for work email.
third would be the ability to wirelessly send directly to another itouch…kinda like the zune.
September 7th, 2007 at 1:54 am
My brain kicked on when I heard about all of the new features of the Ipod Touch. It’s begging to be hacked. I see bit torrent in your pocket. I just wish the hard drive was bigger
September 7th, 2007 at 5:19 am
Skype. Please give us Skype.
))
And e-mail. I don’t care about exchange. I’m not gonna dirty this baby with work
Go iTouchers!
September 7th, 2007 at 7:45 am
No microphone = no skype.
September 7th, 2007 at 8:04 am
Shame on me!
Jeroen is right! No microphone=no skype!!!
Unless the iPod is still hiding some secrets and has a microphone to use the iPod as a voice recorder… I’m just dreaming here…
Ok, will be happy with an IM app!
September 7th, 2007 at 11:59 am
usb microphone
September 7th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
AIM is on the top of my list, as well as a google maps, but I can see why they left that out becuase this won’t be able to do gps like the iphone.
Here’s something no one has mentioned. Since most people are unaware of how capable a technology bluetooth is thanks to the phone companies. If this thing has bluetooth, it can pair with a bluetooth phone and act as a dialer based on your contacts in the ipod touch. (if its bluetooth). There is a program called bluephone that can currently do this as well divert your ringer notification to your computer complete with caller id info, pausing your music and giving you the option to answer. This would allow everyone to have an iphone of sorts with a little glue and duct tape. I hope this is a built in feature that they’re saving for later (to keep the buzz going for the holidays) otherwise it would be a great hack.
September 7th, 2007 at 12:16 pm
So I thought about it some more. If this were compatible with the iphone headphones with built in mic. (Which it could in the future) then with bluetooth your ipod touch could act as a large bluetooth ear piece allowing you to only interface with your ipod touch leaving your cheap ass carrier provided phone in a backpack, briefcase or purse. Now that is the ultimate hack or future feature.

I just want to wipe the OS and start from Scratch. Design a multi touch interface to do all sorts of funky things. Household command center, sweet personal organiser, note pad, voip phone (as far as the microphone goes there are voice recorders for regular ipod and the dock has both USB and serial in out) so it’s basically the first potentially usefull tablet device. I hate the stylus.
maybe bluetooth is hidden in there waiting to be unlocked but I doubt it. at any rate a custom usb dock device can fix that.
hell this thing could even be a wireless midi controller (or usb wired) totally endless possibilities, just wipe the OS. iPod Linux Touch?
September 7th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
it would be wonderful with all this features added on but i think the hackers scene must keep shut. The damm thing is not even released yet and apple is probobly reading this. There is a rumor that it has bluetooth but its not listed in specs. I will get one
September 8th, 2007 at 6:23 am
Jeez, people should really stop complaining about the 16gb space.
Ask yourself this. Out of your “uber 100gb song collection”, how many songs will you and do you actually listen to all the way through when they come on in shuffle mode?
The answer is probably about 5-10%… Truth is, your most likely to be hitting next until you get to a song you like.
Anybody who says “i will and do listen to ANY song that comes on, no matter what time, day or mood im in” is bullsh*tting.
IMO 16gb is plenty, and for all the other juicy features your getting, this baby is worth the cash. Once the hacks/3rd party apps arrive, its gonna be like a top of the range PDA for a fraction of the price!
I just cant wait until we finally find out if there really is a bluetooth chip inside so that we can activate VoIP (Or at least when theyl be a hack to add your own bluetooth chip)
September 8th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
Efforts are already underway to hack the iPod touch. Communities for this have already sprung up. Among them, there are already tentative tutorials for jailbreaking and installing mail.app on the touch:
http://unlock.hacktheipodtouch.com/jailbreak-ipod-touch.html
http://mail.hacktheipodtouch.com/mail-app-on-ipod-touch.html
September 8th, 2007 at 11:18 pm
Number one iTouch hack?
VoIP of course, in addition to Google Maps…
September 9th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
the apps r already out the ipod touch has the same code strand and runns the same apps and every thing give it two hours and ill have mine hacked i already have the emaill allready and google maps then i will have the intaller app for the iphone so then all iphone 3rd party apps will work
September 11th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
I think the size should be bigger and email feature that would be great personally. If there are any dedicated hacking ITouch websites post here thanx. Also i heard theres something called Boner Atsushi?? Some kind of weird app that turns the OS into Vista
??
September 11th, 2007 at 8:01 pm
Actually it was a app called Boner Jenkins. Its a app that is included in Yag Chocolate or Micheal Yag or something like that…
September 12th, 2007 at 12:39 am
1. Email
2. Email
3. Email
September 12th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
for Skype, why not use a Bluetooth headset? (provided that it actually has bluetooth in)
that would work. Oh btw i wouldnt call any apple product a “top of the range pda” .. doesnt even come close. Ok it has a touch screen, that doesnt make it a professional PDA! sorry, although its still fun to hack something that youre not supposed to, it will never me like a PDA nativly. my 2 cents
September 13th, 2007 at 10:52 pm
COBY IS GUNNA HAX HIS IPOD IN 2 HOURS WITH HIS CODE STRANDS! YEAH BARNEY YEAH!
September 14th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
1. Apple Remote Desktop or VNC client.
2. or just iTunes remote control (even if only Coverflow)
September 14th, 2007 at 1:42 pm
Anyone want to begin with mine? Selling it! My ipod touch was posted on Engadget, and it is the # 3 digg today. It’s also an exclusive on gizmodo.com.
September 15th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
I agree with people who say that 16Gb of storage is more than enough. I used to have a 60Gb iPod Photo. I consider myself to be a music person (I listen to it everywhere I go); BUT I have only used 8Gb for music AND photos! The situation changed when I got the 30Gb iPod video (5.5), because now I could also load it up with movies, which do take up a lot of space.
TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, WHEN U HAVE A BIG HARD DRIVE, THERE’S USUALLY A LOT OF CRAP ON THE iPOD, CUZ IT’S HARD TO KEEP EVERYTHING ORGANIZED. PEOPLE DON’T WORRY ABOUT SPACE LIMITATION, SO THEY FILL IT UP WITH JUNK! NOW THAT I AM GETTING READY FOR MY iPOD touch, I FINNALY CLEANED MY WHOLE LIBRARY. I HAVE MORE THAN ENOGH MOVIES AND MUSIC. THE WHOLE LIBRARY IS ONLY 14GB! THAT’S WHY I ORDERED THE iPod touch.
September 16th, 2007 at 1:48 am
everyone keeps talking about hard drive space…. ipod touch does not have a hard drive… its flash based(ie… no moving parts, smaller…) that is why it is 8 or 16 gigs. anyways..
1. IM functionality
2. Download manager… Limewire, torrents
3. Library streaming over the net
September 17th, 2007 at 9:24 am
1. own library streaming over wlan
2. own library download to ipod touch over wlan
3. IM
September 18th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Calendar for sure. I’d really like to be able to add events
Notepad is a basic must
IM would be way cool too
September 19th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
Everyone seems to be forgeting bluetooth headsets+VoIP=phone
September 20th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
ok first i want limewire(yes i know ,shut up)but i want the music to go right to my library.
if u want im use safari to go to http://www.aimonpsp.com yes its a psp thing but it still works fine for now
more space would be loooved ;]
its not so much a program but an attachable usb camera would be absalutely awsomee!

I have been reading alot about the touch and the iphone since i have aquired both recently and I am very surprised not to of read any body mention the fact that the google hacks to search for music work wonderfully. I have used them in the car while driving and just pick a song from a parent directory i want. One at a time noless but still a very useful bit of info for you all. I havent messed around with google codes in a year or so but realized the other day that it should work and by golly it does. on the edge network it Dl in about 10 seconds.
September 24th, 2007 at 12:06 am
thank gilbert- I personally never even knew streaming content was possible on the touch until recently. Can you share with us the strings you are searching google with?
Best,
-K
September 28th, 2007 at 12:59 pm
A lot of signs are pointing towards it having bluetooth, just not enabled, but I wont be sure until I have mine apart.
Having done app programming for the PSP, the Touch won’t be too different.
WLAN library playing should be almost the first to be made once the networking is working right for streaming.
This is would also (provided it has bluetooth) allow programs to emerge for voip/skype.
IM client will almost be assured to be one of the first useful homebrew to emerge, as opensource clients are available all over the net.
For now, update to 1.1.1, dont worry about firmware, there is always a way in, since iTunes must have a way to update firmware, always.
Gnight, Ron

I Want AIM definatly, and a notepad would be great, i tried that aimonpsp.com thing….doesnt work. but some games i mean itunes sells games for the rest of the iPod’s its only fair to have some for the touch! i know it just came out but i got mine and i want new stuff now! Any ideas on how to get a calender program…..i mean its there on the screen but in itunes u can’t add events and it says no program will add them ether…..im happy with the touch def worth the cash, im not to worried about the 16G im sure better will come out but for the things it can do its way worth it….i mean honestly upload your videos to utube if u want so many on ur ipod…..then just bookmark your utube page…..EASY!
sux that if your on myspace it wont play any songs on any myspace pages though…..
I dunno just keep us updated with new apps and hacks, and about the bluetooth talk!
October 3rd, 2007 at 7:42 pm
i would like to installer app and sum games
October 7th, 2007 at 10:55 pm
Please people, I know you wanna hack the touch to make it an iPhone but you’ll be just wasting a lot of time doing it when you can just buy an iPhone for the same price as a 16 Gb touch. Granted, if you want more storage, the 16 gig touch is better, if you also want to waste your time.
What I wan to see tho, are Tap Tap Revolution and everyother 3rd party cool hack w/ iPhone
October 10th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
And what about the nokia n800. $230 on buy.com bigger touchscreen. Extreeeemely hackable because of it comes installed with linux. Bluetooth, 2 sdhc slots, microphone, camera, vnc, wi-fi, and lot more of that sugar.

the iPod touch does use microphone. if you have 3.0 or higher you can plug in a pair of iPhone headphones and you can use the voice memo and this tells me that you can use Skype. Skype is on the iPod + iPhone as well
