Navizon brings a GPS Wannabie to the iPhone. Ok, this doesn’t make the iPhone a real GPS enabled device, but it makes Google map on the iPhone even more fun than it is right now. And the good news is that you can have this for free. At least for the first 15 days. After the trial, you will have to pay $24.99 to keep your access to the service.
Using the coordinates of mobile tower and signal strength coming from the tower located near you, the Navizon software estimates you location and pinpoint it on Google maps.
Reports are stating that the software does an acceptable job but you should expect the location to be accurate within a few hundred feet.
Here’s how the system works according to Navizon:
Some
people with a GPS device collect the location information of cell
towers and wifi access points. Then they share it with the rest of the
network and everyone else who doesn’t have a GPS device can then
simulate a Virtual GPS thanks to the data collected by others. This is
why we call it Peer to Peer Positioning.

Some people with a GPS device …
Does that mean one could use a bluetooth GPS mouse with Navizon and the iPhone? And does google maps on the iPhone provide directions too?
