That was fast! Just over 2 months after being introduced on the market, the iPhone gets a $200 price drop. That’s a 33% drop! Ouch, I already feel the pain of hundreds of thousands of people that paid $599.
Steve Jobs just announced it at the Apple event in San Francisco. By the end of the event, Jobs said to the audience:
"we want to get even more aggressive with this. Take a look at the iPhone. You know, the surveys are in: the customer satisfaction numbers on the iPhone are off the charts. They’re higher from iPhone owners than any Apple product. Ever. They LOVE them. We want to make the iPhone even MORE affordable for even more people."
"So we’re going to do something about that today. We’re on track to ship our 1mth iPhone this month — to get ready for the holidays here’s what we’re going to do. It’s clear clear customers want the 8GB model — it’s not going to sell for 599 anymore.
"Starting today effective immediately, we’re pricing it at just $399."
Apple is more aggressive than ever with their portable devices. They clearly feel the pressure coming for competitors like Microsoft.

Steve really doesn’t love us anymore, does he? What a slap in the face to all of us who waited and waited and then bought the silly thing as soon as it came out.
First, it wouldn’t activate for many of us because AT&T wasn’t ready. Then, when it finally did activate we all realized that we couldn’t do all sorts of normal iPod things (like play stored songs through iTunes or manage the music directly) Now,we come to learn that Apple has been , let’s say, “maximizing profits” (to put it delicately) to the tune of $200 apiece on the backs of its early adopters.
Good show, Apple. You got us this time, but we’ll remember this. Good luck with your next product launch, boys.

Yeah, this was a huge slap in the face. I just bought on a month ago. I was thinking about waiting but I couldn’t resist. Now after I go and spend $600, they go and drop the price. Less than 3 months after release. Messed up.
They should give us something.
Totally kills the romance of owning one.

Spare the vasoline and give it another good push. Ahhhh, now that feels better. I only paid a $200 early adopter, I believe in Apple tax. I can’t wait to see what’s next. Maybe he’ll do something really stupid like try to charge us $.99 to make a ring tone out of a song we already own. I can’t believe Apple did this (price drop). Every one who told me to wait as the price will drop is laughing. I told them NO, Apple will add more features and functions and keep the price up. This makes no sense from a business point of view. Let’s see…I have a product that I can’t sell enough of and has wild consumer acceptance. So let’s drop the price! Yea…had me that please, my turn for a hit. What are the boys in Cupertino smoking? I feel cheated or tricked. Bad Apple, Bad Bad. I will wait next time, I promise as many others will.
