I want my iPhone update! Please, Steve, could you give your servers some more bandwidth? I’ve been trying for 2 hours to get through now. . .I’ve been a good girl and never hacked, unjailed, or apptapp’d my precious iPhone. . .am I the only one who can’t get through?
Update: finally I got through.
Ok, for those of you who haven’t done this yet, here’s what happens — it seems different than previous updates. iTunes downloads the update as usual once it senses your iPhone is connected to your Mac.
After a bit, a window pops up saying iTunes is connecting to the server. It seemed to take me about 25 minutes(!) to download this giant 150+mg update.
Don’t unplug the iPhone, and if you’re on a latop, it’s probably
best to make sure you’re connected to a power source so you don’t
experience any unexpected interruptions. When the download’s done,
iPhone will wake up with a beep.
You’ll see it reboot itself. As the black screentop with the grey
Apple logo appears on restart, the usual gray spinner will spin. In my
cases">case, it seemed to spin for about 5 minutes.
Then iPhone started itself normally, and I saw my unlock screen with
my normal wallpapers">wallpaper, as expected. What I didn’t expect was the message
"Waiting for activation. . ." in the usual blue bubble you see for text
message alerts.
I don’t recall this happening with the last update! Is AT&T
really completely re-activating the device? This hung around for about
2 minutes.
After that time, iPhone beeped again and displayed a new message,
"iPhone is activated." I entered my passcode as usual to unlock and
was surprised to see the new purple iTunes icon on the button row!
Hooray! Success! Fairly painless after the initial delay.

Why would they put the Music Store Icon on the bottom right? I think it would have much more esthetic value if it was on the left side it seems out of place…

I agree — the purple iTunes icon kinda clashes with the orange iPod icon. . .(wink). But seriously, I would have it put it on the top row, clearly it’s the most important after SMS and iCal.

Hah. You guys are lucky. Iphone not here for an age yet - if you believe Steve? And then only with 2.5G.
Still - next best thing (or is it not even better?) went to Bluewater Applestore in Kent, UK this morning. Ten minutes after opening, hoping for an iPod touch 16Gig. Very sorry sir, only have the 8s left. 16s have been sold out since Tuesday!
Hmmm. Take a tour. Buy some jeans for the boy. Think about it a while. 8 would be fine. back to the store…Very sorry sir. All sold out. 8s and 16s. No more ’til Monday.
Hey you guys over there. At least you have the beasties. And they work, mostly.
By the way. Bought the boy 8Gig Nano video as birthday present for his 17. Guess what…DOA!
Two reasons to go back Monday now.
