While Stephane’s off being famous. . .

io

So boss freak Stephane’s off in Vegas at the big blog convention, right? And while we all know that normally what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, not so with Stephane.

Nope. He gets the big story on C|Net. That’s just how cool he is. Yay us, as Buffy used to say.

The rest o’ the freak crew stayed home and washed our hair. But seriously, I was waiting for the iPhone firmware update 1.1.2 to finally make its appearance in iTunes.

Because I have bugs. . .er, issues. . .and I’m mighty tired of ‘em. But here it is nearly midnite EST, and the puppy still doesn’t show up in iTunes when you connect iPhone and click Check for Update.

Of course, I could go over to Macrumors, download the gianormous thing from the link, move it to the iPhone Updates Folder in the iTunes Library, and manually Restore my virgin iPhone, choosing the new firmware from the pop-up list.

Those who have done so are reporting that some functions of the phone run faster and a couple of known bugs were fixed, besides all the new groovy internationalization stuff the Mothership packed in. And for you third-party people, iToner seems to be preserved.

So it was looking good to me as I read on, but! But!

I did go so far as to download and move this planet — really at 160mg it’s so freaking huge it could be Jupiter’s 64th moon
and was about to Restore when I saw on the forum I would probably have
to resync all my songs, iCal, etc. and I just couldn’t face the long
resync this late.

I will absolutely update iPhone as soon as 1.1.2 appears
automagically in iTunes — or tomorrow afternoon, when I lose all my
patience with waiting. Don’t worry readers, you’ll be the  first to
know how it goes.

Or if any of you have been pro-active enough to walk through the manual procedure, do comment below and tell us how it went.

Well, most of us. Stephane’s still busy doing stuff we’ll never hear about. . .

Well you will have a long wait, 1.1.2 was not ment for the states, its for UK only , mainly for the languages, how this rumor got started is puzzling. As for those who downloaded the update off the net and say thier iphone is much improved are sufferring from iphone-itis, where the notion of the word update and downloading will subliminally make that person believe something that is not there(such as improved performance)theres a scientific term for this but it escapes me right now, but it is a real condition of the mind.
So why would you want to burn up precious disc space on your iphone with a useless huge update(unless you speak 27 languages)
Get a grip people, update and improved are not synomous
