For a while now, we’ve been under the impression that the new iPhone will sport a glossy black case, news has arisen that would seem to suggest otherwise.

The folks down at MacRumors recently reported that the glossy back that we have been seeing in "leaked" images of the 3G may just be a 3rd party "protective case" for the iPhone.

While this news does not discredit the claim by Engadget’s "trusted source" who has apparently had hands on experience with the new iPhone, it does draw some controversy upon this leaked image, as we all know from experience leaked images are for the most part usually doctored or faked.
