The details surrounding this story are very scarce, but what we do know is that iPod Touch users have managed to port (convert) the popular first person shooter "Quake 3: Arena" onto the iPod Touch (from platforms such as the PC, Sega Dreamcast, Mac, and Playstation 2.)
This video shows Quake 3 on the iPod Touch, which means that it should also be compatible with the iPhone.
From the video we can see that network-play is enabled, meaning that multiplayer with other iPhone users is present. This is a big plus for the iPhone in terms of it making leaps to become the next mobile gaming platform.
Finally, the video also shows that this port of Quake 3: Arena utilizes the iTouch’s accelerometer for directionality (tilt the iTouch/iPhone in the direction you wish to move), and the multitouch interface for shooting (tap once to fire).
