3G iPhone coming to Vodacom South Africa on July 20?
June 9, 2008 | Robert Nelson

We have already seen the deal announced back in early May, so we already knew the iPhone was headed to South Africa through a deal that was arranged by their parent company Vodafone.
However, the latest news coming from that release, is that the iPhone will be available beginning on July 20, which is good news, but sadly that would mean they will have to wait a little bit longer than the expected release dates for other areas in the world.
This date of course, could not yet be officially confirmed, but if you remember this deal was originally announced with an availability of “later this year”.

OHHHKAY.. i will be the happiest chap alive when the iphone comes to SA.. please, does anyone know for sure whether it will be in south africa on the 20th july 2008.. a price maybe?
any information to feed my growing hunger for one of these phones.. i do now understand why people become serial killers, its waiting for the iphone to come out..
Rockeout with your cock out..
cool,i’ve got an iphone i bought it from a shop in Durban, now im waitin 2 buy 1 4 my wife
he guys wassup…does any1 knw what the price of the iphone will be around….both 8GB and 16GB…..thnx
Hi,N20,can you tell me where is the shop in Durban?? i want to buy the iphone…please tell me the address, thanks
Price on a iPhone in SA, well apple had a press conference and said that no provider may sell the phone for more than $199 = 1,589.911 + import duties we are looking at around R2000.
Hope fully Vodacom will be subsidizing some of the costs on the phone, the most likely package:
R499 pay in on iPhone 8Gb and R1299 16Gb iPhone. (Comparing it to the BlackBerry 8310 and Palm Treo 500v)
Talktime minute: 100 mins (Anytime)
Monthly Charge: 389.00
Mailbox Size: Unlimited, but mail is auto-aged after 30 days
Meg: 250 MB
Pay as you go. . . Don’t hold your breath in Italy pre-pay users can buy the 8Gb iPhone for €499 or the 16GB model for €569, but phone is locked and only two per customer.
But it will be interesting to see what will happen with the iPod Touch witch retails at 3,299.00 (8Gb), R4,399.00 (16Gb) and R5,399.00 (32Gb) in South Africa. . . With the iPhone coming in at around R2000

This phone is giving me sleepless nights, I’m desperate for a new phone and I have to wait anothe month, can anyone spill the beans on when it will be available for sure in the country?
well i will be selling them folks for UNDER R4000. visit iphone3g.co.za for more details.
Hi Rashaad
I’ve heard of many people who bought unlocked iPhones while travelling abroad and brought it back to SA and it doesnt work properly. Basic functions like sms doesnt work.
If buying an ulocked iPhone from you can we use any service provider?
Does Vodacom hold exclusive rights to software and the mechanics of the iphone?
Vodacom is keeping their cards very close to their chest…spoke to the guys @ Smartcom and they reckon availability end of August due to delays in testing
OMF, I seriously CAN NOT wait any longer. Just spoke to someone at Vodacom and he gives Sept as the release date…f&ck it know, i was banking on 20 july
I think that the $200 is a price attached to contract purchases. There are rumours that in Europe a non-contract phone will cost in the region of 499.00 Euros (8GB) and 569.00 Euros (16GB). That places it around the R5000.00 – R6000.00 range for those of us not buying it on contract here in SA. In support of this, rumours of Australian non-contract pricing range from 599.00 Aus. Dollars for an 8GB model upwards.
Its gonna arive at on the 1 aug
I would love an iPhone but I am not paying R5000 for it. I don’t want to take out a 24 month contract because I may be transferred for work in 6 months. This sucks.
“well i will be selling them folks for UNDER R4000. visit iphone3g.co.za for more details.” Rashaad Sallie.
Take a look at Rashaad’s site now – the bit about UNDER R4000 has been crossed out. It’s going to cost a lot. Start saving now.
I do say it was promised by Apple that World round the New iPhone 3G will cost the same everywhere. So if this is so the 16G iPhone should cost about R2400, if not i will definitely have a big fight and contact Apple on this!! South Africa is known to be the second most expensive country in the world and i will most definitely not stand for it if the iPhone is priced high. If so, and Apple will not do something about this, i will definitely import my iPhone, and i say then to all South Africans not to support Vodacom and rather import there iPhone and let Vodacom rot as it should if they price the iPhone high.
I so badly want an iPhone, but I’m also not gonna buy R5 000 for it! If its true that Apple said the price is gonna be the ame everywhere then it hs to cost around R1 500 for the Iphone!
I can’t wait anymore. It driving me insane!
The iPhone looks AWESOME!
The $199 is referring to the initial pay in when signing a 24month contract. It is NOT the price of the phone! The phone will cost a lot more, but on contract Vodacom will subsidise a portion of the cost and charge you the rest (the amount they charge you may not exceed $199)
Hi Guys
Just a quick Questions for those who said the iphone will be out on July 20th , this is a Sunday, who would release this phone on a Sunday.. I was overseas and could have bought the iphone 16gig but decided to wait and got the Sony Ericsson W960i in the mean time it works amazing, yet i still want the iphone.. So i guess the wait will be worth it in the long run…
But Vodacom shouldnt make us wait too long seeing as New Zealand got their on the 11th July..
Dam got to have it its driving me crazy
gdk
Oh and in Dubai the 16gig was R9000 which was dam steep… and i wont get the 8 gig cause my sony is an 8 rather go bigger or go home..
I must aggre with Michael. If Vodacom is going to ask a leg and a arm for the iphone, we must not support them and refuse to buy from them.
I ALSO AGREE, BOYCOTT VODACOM IF THERE PRICES ARE HIGH, ALSO VODACOM USUALLY COMES OUT WITH REDICULOUS PRICES, BUT SOON ENOUGH IT WILL DROP AND A IT SHOULD BE CHEAP, BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE, VODACOM WILL OVER CHARGE PEOPLE ESPECIALLY ON PREPAID, I THINK THAT EVEN CONTRACTS WILL BE HIGH PRICED.
yea realy think if vodacom is going to ask a arm and leg we mus refuse to buy at them at all !!!!
Hey.. It’s the 1st of August!!
How about an update?
The only news is still “coming soon”
apparently not too “soon”.
: (
Haha, Vodacom said 2 me that the Iphone 3G will only cost R1500 to R2500 for the 8GB.
I dnt kwn hw much the 16GB will cost??
Can any1 plz tel me if they knw>><=
September and no launch date yet!
I got a text message yesterday confirming receipt of my being on the waiting list, but still not actual date.
the last time i heard from vodacom was that the iphone 3G was comming mid september, we are going to mid september still no update from them. its as if we are going to wait forever dont u think so people
I agree we must not support Vodacom if the iPhone is overpriced. Sommer change my network to somebody els
i was so impatient about the time its taking vodacom to revile and launch the iphone and this is the respond i got from an Accomplice
[Hi
Please be advised that the handset will be launched on the 25th of September, you can log in into our web site that day and check it then.]
i got excited but what worries me is the pricing because some shops are already selling it between R7500 and R9000, if it will cost us more than R3000 from vodacom then i advice everyone to order oversea.
bt
lets wait an c.
Vodacom is way over priced with the cost of the iphone3G alone, retails in the US at $199.00. I Im of to the US in november, who knows it might be less. So im gona hold my breath till then. Cant wait to get my hands on it.
