Apple Releases iPhone SDK 8, Mentions Free iTunes Remote App

Tonight developers for the iPhone received a nice little gift from Apple. They pre-released iTunes 7.7 as well as iPhone SDK Beta 8. These are the central developer tools for anyone in the process of designing 3rd party Apps for the iPhone.

So, anything new or interesting? Well the iPhone firmware included with the update is said to be more stable than versions tested in the last few weeks. Also, Apple mentions a new piece of info in the Read Me for the iTunes installer:

“Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home — a free download from the App Store.”

There have been web apps for the iPhone in the past that have tried to emulate this, but I think a direct-from-Apple iTunes remote app will be a really cool addition to any digital library. This is why you should always read that Read Me!

iTunes 7.7 has a few new features itself. First, iTunes now supports MobileMe. This is the service which syncs data between PCs, Macs, and the iPhone.

Second, there is a new Applications section in iTunes and has the option to sync “all” or “selected” applications to the iPhone. This meshes well with the news that Apple is now accepting Apps into the App Store.
