That’s right, only 5 days until Steve Jobs takes the stage at WWDC once more and showers iPhone goodness down upon us. To me, that sounds like five more days of speculation and rumors, so let’s compile some of the latest ones.
First off, TUAW has shored up their positions about a couple of new rumors. They believe, based on the information they have recieved, that the new iPhone firmware will not be released at WWDC, but instead a week or two afterward. The reason for this is that many of the wireless carriers Apple has been dealing with over the past few months are demanding a “first look” at the firmware before it goes out to consumers. This means the iPhone hardware would not be launched directly at that event either, a conclusion that is supported by my previous timeline of AT&T work schedules.
TUAW also believes that the images obtained by Engadget are the real thing. There is no reason stated for this particular position.
Another gem comes from Mac Rumors, who have been rummaging around in Apple’s patent bin. It seems they have uncovered a patent with Steve Jobs’ own name on it relating to the new iPhone. Submitted on May 29th of this year, the patent outlines functionalities like video conferencing, instant messaging, blogging, and digital video recording. The image included in the patent also closely resembles the upper half of the iPhone. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions, but pretty much all of these functions were rumored already, so this document gives them a great deal more credence.
These are all just rumors, but be sure to stop by iPhoneFreak.com or check our RSS feed all the way up to and during the WWDC keynote and conference for up to the minute news and articles to keep you in the know!
