Hmm. I envisioned this weekly segment to be a round-up of everything we missed or anything that needed special attention. This week, I hope, we haven’t missed ANYTHING. With WWDC on Monday, any rumor, snipit, or suggestion about the iPhone has been heavy on our minds and clearly expressed on our keyboards.
For that reason, I just want to describe WWDC in relation to its watchers on the web. WWDC, the World Wide Developers Conference, is just that, a developer conference. It’s not a fancy gala of next-gen technologies (except for a choice few of course) and it doesn’t attract too terribly many non-Apple celebrities. In fact, Internet Week in New York is occurring simultaneously with the conference, so many of the iconic characters of the web will be attending it instead. This is understandable as lots of them will be receiving Webbys.
So why all the fuss? Well, Steve “Mad Dog” Jobs is mostly to blame for that. He holds wildly anticipated keynote events where he dramatically introduces every new nuance of the Apple “experience.” A black turtleneck and jeans are always his chose attire and most of his phrasing is either repeated from previous keynotes or added to the English language that day.
In comparison to all of those interested in the keynote, almost no one will be allowed to attend. The journalists, bloggers, and developers who do attend will be in a prime position to set up a liveblog and stream the text (if not sometimes the video) of the speech to the world at large. Attendees, also have the privilege, though not permission, to play “Keynote Bingo” with the cards Ars Technica make up every year.
Want to learn more about the WWDC and prepare for a day of watching to see what Steve-O has up his sleeve this year? Check out our dedicated Comprehensive Coverage of the WWDC page, which will stay at the top of our site throughout the entire conference. There you will find links to just about everything you can imagine and our latest articles, rumors, and release info as soon as it hits the fan.
