KTF looking to bring the iPhone to Korea
June 5, 2008 | Robert Nelson

While KTF is still in talks with Apple, there are some technical issues that are holding up the deal. The technical issue is due to the phones built-in Wi-Fi and web browser, which would allow users to "freely surf the web." It seems that Korean telco’s are more concerned with making users surf the net on their own mobile service, for which they can charge them for and in turn make a little more of a profit.
Aside from the technical issues, Apple is also currently in talks with SK Telecom, and it is speculated that Apple would choose to introduce the iPhone into Korea with just one carrier, at least initially.
KTF is still holding out hope, having recently stated that they "have been trying to bring the iPhone here, but we have to wait,” because ultimately "the deal is up to the supplier," which in this case is, of course Apple.
Similar to the numerous other recent iPhone carrier announcements there has not been any mention, assuming the deal goes though of just when Koreans would be able to purchase an iPhone of their very own.
