Mercedes Benz offers updated iPhone integration kit
June 21, 2008 | Robert Nelson

For those lucky Mercedes Benz owners, Mercedes has unveiled their latest updated cradle for the iPhone. The new cradle mounts in the center console and offers complete integration with the cars existing stereo system.
Using a connection of either the optionally available Media Interface or the retrofittable iPod Interface Kit users will have complete control over their iPhone. The in-dash controls as well as the steering wheel controls will allow the user to operate both the phone and audio portions of the iPhone. The in-dash display will also feature the phone status, as well as the audio status to include the artist, album title and current track information. As you would expect, when docked the iPhone will also be given a charge and you will also see an increased reception thanks to the help of your vehicle’s antenna.
The updated iPhone Cradle will set users back €249 (about $385 US), and is available in Germany on the C-Class, E-Class, CLK-Class, CLS-Class, S-Class, CL-Class, SL-Class, M-Class and R-Class models.
With such a nice option available that allows you to truly take full advantage of your iPhone in your car, its a shame that this is not offered in a more affordable car.

The Kit runs about $385, if your car comes prewired with a cradle. Most dont get the option of a cradle, useless feature since the cradles are only compatible with certain phones. Without the cradle, it should cost an Extra $200 (price for a cradle)
Instead mercedes offers Ipod integration which is a simple module which should run for about $60. Its a cheaper option and can be installed by your self.
