As July 11 comes closer and closer, we have been experiencing issues with the .mac service, and while that is not really anything new, we are also beginning to see signs of the newly announced MobileMe service coming to life.
Lots of reports are coming in that the .me email address is now working for current .mac subscribers. If you simply change your username@mac.com over to username@me.com you may be able to see an email come through.
Of course, while neat that it is coming to life, at this point the .me address is acting as nothing more than a forward to your current address. I also would not recommend begin using it, at least not for anything important as its likely that it will be on and off during the lead in to the official release.
My address, at least as of Sunday morning has been working. Are any other .mac subscribers beginning to see theirs come alive also? Feel free to post some updates in the comments below.
Of course, your mail will be delivered either way once the service goes live, Apple has already stated that “the choice is yours. You will still receive email sent to your mac.com address so you won’t miss any emails.”
Personally, I am excited by the service and although I am trying to not get my hopes up to high as far as how well it will work, after all consider all the issues we already see with the .mac service. Just in case you missed it, Apple had also posted a nice video tutorial for the MobileMe service.

I sent an email addressed to myself at my mac.com account as me.com and it arrived almost instantly.
So it is working! Hooray!

That the @me.com is working is a good sign. But my iDisk isn’t 20 GB larger yet, so I don’t think everything’s entirely online. I have read on other rumor sites (and not denied by the language on apple.com) that MobileMe will be live and functional before July 11 3G release and that we might be getting iPhone 2.0 on our dinosaur iPhones before 3G release. Any better clue on when 2.0 (apps, push, etc.) goes live???
