Oh Noes! Shortage in the iPod Touch Supply

It seems that the iPod Touch (little brother to the iPhone) is running in short supply.  Apple’s online store is noting a 1-2 day delay in shipping the 8GB version of the device.  This is probably due to the increased demand from the Back To School Promotion for students buying a Mac. Best Buy seems to have a reduced supply of the 16GB version.  This may also be futher evidence of very good sales for the iPod Touch.

The iPods are selling very well it seems.  Also, the $199 price point for the 3G iPhone may soon cause Apple to reduce the cost of it’s comparably priced iPods.  Right now the iPod Touch is priced on the Apple Store website as $299 for the 8GB, $399 for the 16GB, and $499 for the 32GB.  Even the “worst” iPhone model costs less than the comparable iPod Touch model.  Of course, there is no monthly service charge with an iPod Touch, but most consumers probably only consider the price points at initial sale when sizing up the various “Pods.”

What do you think the new pricing structure for the iPod Touch should look like?  What’s fair, what would you pay?

I think that they are going to have to at least match the iPhone price, if not cheaper.

The 16GB Touch is going to go for ~$50 less than the 16GB iPhone. Like wise for the 8GB. The 32GB Touch, however, will most definitely take the cake.
