Orange announces iPhone 3G pricing plans

Orange, who is currently the exclusive French carrier has just announced their iPhone 3G pricing plans, and yes they all include (almost) unlimited data transfer.

Users will have five plans to choose from which range in price from 49 euro (around $77 US) per month up to 149 euro (around $235 US) per month. All plans will come with visual voicemail, up to 100 hours of free Wi-Fi on a hotspot in the “8h+8h” rate plan with up to 10 hours on hotspots with other rate plans. They also all come with unlimited email and, as previously mentioned the (almost) unlimited data transfer. I write (almost) because Orange currently has a 500MB fair use cap, which means that even though it is an unlimited plan, they could cut you off should you reach your limit, I am not sure how that really qualifies to be considered or even listed as unlimited, but at least they are being (almost) honest up front.

The plan options include:

  • 120 anytime minutes, 120 night and weekend minutes and 50 text messages for 49 euro per month
  • 180 anytime minutes, 180 night and weekend minutes and 100 text messages for 59 euro per month
  • 300 anytime minutes, 300 night and weekend minutes and 150 text messages for 79 euro per month
  • 480 anytime minutes, 480 night and weekend minutes and 1000 text messages for 119 euro per month
  • 720 anytime minutes, 720 night and weekend minutes and 1000 text messages for 149 euro per month

In addition to the pricing plans, the iPhone itself will be priced beginning at 149 euro (around $235) for the 8GB model and 199 euro ($314) for the 16GB model with a two-year agreement.

Orange will also be offering the 8GB iPhone 3G for 199 euro or 249 euro for the 16GB model through their Orange loyalty upgrade program, this also requires the two-year agreement. And finally, for customers who purchased an iPhone with an Orange plan before June 12 of this year will be able to get a 100 euro refund bringing the price of the 8GB model down to just 99 euro.
