Piper Jaffray analyst claims only 1-in-10 iPhones will be pre-paid

While AT&T has yet to announce any plans for a pre-paid iPhone, some overseas carriers have already announced their plans to do so. So, just how many people are going to be willing to shell out the higher price tag that the non-subsidized version will require?

While that number is certainly not know for sure, at least one man, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has some ideas. According to Munster the pre-paid handsets “won’t even make up a proportionate share of sales” and will equal just about 10 percent overall. That is just 1 out of every 10. Which is due at least in part to the cost, which he believes will cost “more than $600 per unsubsidized iPhone 3G.”

Given that I am in the US and will be using AT&T I have no real option for a pre-paid phone, but personally I think I would rather have the lower price and keep the contract, I shelled out the high dollar cost for the original iPhone, but I am not sure I could justify doing the same after just about one year of use.
