With all the hope that Rogers was going to follow a similar pattern as AT&T in the US and begin to offer an unlimited data plan for the iPhone they have been taking some serious criticism around the blogoshpere since they announced their plans yesterday.
In turn it looks like they have gone on the defense and according to their statements it seems like they are thinking, that they are actually helping the customers by not offering an unlimited plan.
“Unlimited plans could end up costing customers more for what they don’t use,” the spokeswoman argues. “Our iPhone plans more than accommodate the vast majority of customers.”
In addition a company spokeswoman stated that “majority of international iPhone carriers have capped data and believes its plan to be better.” While that statement in itself is true, it sounds like a poor argument to me. It almost seems like they are saying they are the best of the capped plans, which when compared to the pricing and data plans we have seen for the UK and the US it simply does not compare.
I do feel its safe to say that while unlimited is nice, because you don’t ever have to worry, but most users will not even use what these plans offer because 1GB and 2GB of data transfer on a mobile phone is really not that low.
Of course we can, and most will, use the argument that if AT&T in the US can do unlimited for a better price than a big company like Rogers should be able to at least come close. In all fairness to Rogers, they have been getting better over time with their data pricing, sadly the pricing is just not coming down fast enough.

Rogers public image has never been good. It is astonishing that they could find a way to make it even worse. Way to go Rogers.

Galaktobot, I agree. They had a chance to change everyone’s perspective, and get a boatload of iphone subscribers all in one swoop on July 11, but now they’ve gone and screwed themselves yet again.

And on top of that their voice plans that go along with the data plans are the worst ever.
I would say that 90% of Canadians get better voice plans with Rogers now.then what they offered with the iphone. 150 minutes. Give me a break!
Its just totally insane what they did.
