A new iPod Touch in the works?

Curious iPod Touch users have begun to dig through the beta seed of the Touch’s upcoming firmware release (2.1) in hopes of finding a tidbit of interesting information. Alas, they have!

During their review of these files, inquisitive iPod Touch users stumbled upon a file structure named “iPod2,1,” the current iPod Touch is dubbed “iPod1,1.”

“iPod1,1″ is a generic term for the current generation of iPod Touch’s, regardless of their storage capacity (8GB, 16GB and 32GB.)

From this we can draw the conclusion that the “iPod2,1,” text refers to a completely new iPod Touch, not just a new storage size. The fact that the beta of the 2.1 firmware contains this information leads me to believe that it could be compatible with a new iPod Touch (if there is such a thing;) meaning that there is a chance it will be announced within the lifespan of the 2.1 firmware. We’ll see!
