App Store serves up 10 million app downloads during launch weekend

In addition to the one million iPhone 3G’s that were sold during this first weekend, the App Store was also a huge success with more than 10 million applications already being downloaded from both iPhone and iPod Touch users.

“The App Store is a grand slam, with a staggering 10 million applications downloaded in just three days,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Developers have created some extraordinary applications, and the App Store can wirelessly deliver them to every iPhone and iPod touch user instantly.”

Certainly an impressive feat, there are easily more than a few applications that should make just about any user happy. With the initial launch having over 500 apps, Apple is now claiming that there are “more than 800″ applications available of which “more than 200″ are free.

Lets just hope the developers continue to roll out new apps and continue to offer updates and support for those that we have already come to enjoy. Personally I look forward to seeing what comes from the App Store in the future, there are plenty of possibilities.

The app store is great and it dosent surprise me if they have sold 1 million iPhones that they have already had 10 million downloaded.
I have 20 myself but the one thing that is bothering me is that they arent like new music and have a day which they are all released on but they are updated every day. Like you said roughly 300 more have already been released since the launch.

Do you think this is due to the vast amount of initial submissions and the apps like all other media released by Apple( Music, Video, ETC ) will be released on Tuesdays?

According to the Apple release about 300 apps have been added since launch, they did not mention when those were added, although I suspect they were coming in on a fairly regular basis.

I have not seen anything yet to indicate that there would be a specific day for new apps to appear in the store, although it would fit with the iTunes pattern.

Personally I wish they would have a nicer or more updated “New” section because there are a few apps that were added over the weekend that are very nice such as Last.fm, that I found out about, not because of the App Store but Twitter.

Of course, I guess with adding that many so quickly it would be hard to really keep a new section up to date. We will have to see what happens when new apps slow down.

I, at least, downloaded 12 apps. They are so amazing. I think Developers did a great job. Those 500 are only a sample of what’s to come. New games are gonna be so nice.
