AT&T: initial iPhone sales have doubled since last year

Earlier today (July 23, 2008,) AT&T released a statement saying that during the first twelve days of being available, the iPhone 3G has sold double of what the original iPhone sold last year. More specifically, AT&T stated that iPhone profits rose 30 percent to $3.77 billion or 63 cents per share.

“The Apple iPhone 3G is a dramatic example of this transformation,” said chief executive Randall Stephenson. “In the days following our exclusive U.S. launch of this new device, powered by the nation’s fastest 3G wireless network, customer response has been everything we had anticipated and more.”

During the quarter, AT&T managed to add 1.3 million wireless subscribers, because of this AT&T has been able to maintain its title as “the largest US wireless provider.”
