AT&T offers TAP plans for deaf iPhone 3G users

AT&T has just introduced their iPhone 3G TAP (text accessibility plan) for “people who are deaf, hard of hearing, have a speech disability and/or hearing loss.” The TAP plans will carry the same $10 increase that the standard calling plans saw for the 3G data as opposed to the older EDGE data plan.

Basically there are two options under the TAP plan, you have the personal and business option. Both plans include unlimited SMS messages, unlimited data usage (email and web), Visual Voicemail and charge $.40 per minute pay-per-use voice.

The personal plan runs $50 per month and the business plan, which really just adds the enterprise mail will cost you $65 per month. These plans are available for the iPhone 3G, however AT&T still also offers the $40 a month plan for the original iPhone.

For those of you who just want a data plan and no voice minutes, and are thinking about trying to take advantage of this, first off, shame on you, and second AT&T does required you to complete some disability certification forms in order to qualify.
