Belgian protection law forces delay of iPhone 3G release

Based on a recent report from MacBidouille, it seems that the iPhone 3G launch is going to be delayed for Belgian customers. The launch was originally scheduled to take place on July 11 has been postponed due to a “law prohibiting a device to be sold in conjunction with a required subscription.”

Basically this means that the phone could be sold, but Apple, nor the local carrier would be able to have a requirement to sign up for service, which in turn means Mobistar would not be able to offer an exclusive deal. Currently a new release date has not been announced by either Mobistar or Apple.
