For anyone who cannot wait any longer to begin using the newly discovered apps in the App Store, you now have your chance, because a direct link to firmware version 2.0 has been found on the Apple website.
The software is not yet available thought iTunes, so simply clicking the “Check for Update” button will not be enough to get you the latest and greatest. Instead you have to download the firmware directly from Apple (iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw) and then once its on your desktop you will have to press the Option key while clicking the “Check for Update” button in iTunes.
Once you have done that you will be given the option to select the file that you want to use to install. According to MacRumors you also have to make sure the file is “.ipsw” and not a “.zip” file.
Of course, if you decide to take this route, make sure you backup your data first and proceed with caution. Also don’t come yelling if you have any problems later, this is to be done at your own risk. Also keep in mind tha firmware version 2.0 should be “officially” available shortly.

Mia,
The options key is on the keyboard. By holding the option key and clicking the “Check for Update” button in iTunes you will get a box that comes up and allows you to choose what file you want to use to perform the upgrade with.

Has anyone noticed their phone working just a hair slower with the new firmware upgrade? You really notice it when typing or using the touch screen??
Just went buy the ATT store by me to see if the 3G was the same way, but the line was out the door . . .

It’s actually now available for those who are not brave. But, probably due to demand, you won’t be able to complete the upgrade — the process gets stuck at the end when your phone tries to ‘access iTunes store’ — and naturally there’s no help to be found at Tech Support (where they tell you to call back later).
Good times. And your phone won’t work either.

This is brutal. I have been trying to activate my phone for over 3 and a half hours now. I know i am part of the problem by constantly trying to update it, but its just ridiculous. I just want it to work!
