If you’ve been missing gTalk capabilities on your iPhone, never fear, Google has just created a webapp. If you’ve forgotten what those are…well they’re just like the new 3rd party apps, but lamer. Anyway, the “site” is up on www.google.com/talk and ready for chatting.
There are some downsides to the webapp version of Google Talk. First of all, because it is a webapp, if you close Safari or even go to a different pane, you will show up as unavailable.
Hopefully Google will release a free App once the new firmware comes out and save us from the uglyness that is Safari-based chat. Personally I’d like to see a notifier bar above the home screen to indicate new IMs (much like the iPhone already has when in the midst of a call.
What do you think of this new app? Do you even use gTalk?

Yeah check it out at talk.google.com. It’s a pretty cool protocol. Most of the multi-protocol clients have it now. I use it a lot for people overseas.

They need to make a native app for GTalk.
