iPhone-dev Team unveils Pwnage Tool 2.0 [Updated]

The iPhone-dev team teased us earlier today with a slightly cryptic post that simply stated "We love Sundays. We think you will too."

Of course after reading that we could only assume that we would be able to get our hands on the Pwnage Tool 2.0 as of tomorrow, but with some good news it looks like they just could not wait any longer.

They have just officially released Pwnage Tool 2.0 and assuming you can get a download, its available for everyone to play with. You can go ahead and grab it from their site , or check out the mirror , which comes courtesy of "BigBoss."

If you are feeling brave, leave us some comments letting us know just how well it does or does not work. Well that’s it for me, I have an original iPhone running firmware 2.0 sitting on the desk here just waiting to be jailbroken and unlocked.

[UPDATE] Since the original posting, the iPhone-dev team has released an updated version of the Pwnage Tool. Its now at version 2.0.1 and it can be downloaded from the dev team’s website.

I have also successfully unlocked my original iPhone. It was running a jailbroken version of 1.1.4, and I then updated it to version 2.0 directly from iTunes. Once at 2.0 I ran the Pwnage Tool and unlocked it without any trouble.

Has anyone successfully jailbreaked their iPhone 3G yet? I just found out that Pwnage Tool 2.0 was out at 2am Sunday. I also had already downloaded it. So, I guess I’m just waiting for a success story before I jailbreak mine. Well, good luck to all, may everyone have a successful jailbreak for the device they own. Please let me know the results.

My friend has done it, but i really havent been able to talk to him about it. Is this first version for Mac only? Or does it work for windows as well?

For right now it seems to be mac only. And Tim, thanks for link to the success stories. But, now I see a different problem that hinders me from hacking my phone right now. It looks to me that the Pwnage Tool only installs Cydia. That is great and all, and it plays nice with Installer, but Cydia is not carrying many apps right now. So, I think I’m gonna hold out until something like Summer Board turns up for Cydia. It looks and sounds to me Cydia is gonna be “the” new Installer, once they get all the apps turned for Cydia. Needless to say, I really hope that happens soon. I can’t wait to customize my new iPhone 3G!
