As we mentioned on Saturday, O2 did indeed begin taking pre-orders for the iPhone 3G and it seems that the demand was incredible. The sales began and within hours they process came grinding to a halt.
Those who were looking to upgrade came to the site and were greeted with a slow and unresponsive website, and then it was quickly followed with a simple message claiming that the order process was down.
“our upgrade online shop is currently unavailable.”
Then only to further add to the frustration and disappointment, that message was quickly changed to a sold-out status and was replaced by;
“Due to huge demand for the iPhone 3G, we’re currently out of stock online.”
Now, any customers looking to purchase the iPhone 3G will have to wait and check back on the O2 website on July 10. If not they will officially be on sale beginning at 8:02am on July 11. With such a pre-order rush, lets hope the launch day will go smoothly for those having to deal with the lines.
