Assuming the rumors are true, it looks like iPhone users will soon have another option to choose from to satisfy their streaming music needs. This information is coming from “source close to the internet radio service” and is calling for an iPhone app being “about ready to launch.”
Of course there are not any details on just who this source is or just how soon “ready” really means, however the supposed details do make it sound promising and could potentially pose a threat to some other the current leaders such as Last.fm and Pandora.
The Slacker service is expected to be able to allow users to stream music and also cache music for offline playback, it will also offer similar services as the others such as allowing for user recommendations, which will help to offer a more personalized stream. It was also noted that that Slacker will be able to offer a “better audio quality than other solutions out there.” Sounds like they are ready for a fight.
Of course, according to the official statement, which comes from the vice president of marketing Jonathan Sasse, he was able to confirm that they are “very close to releasing the Slacker Radio experience for many mobile devices,” but as expected he could not confirm if that really meant the iPhone.
I guess we will just have to wait, but as a current Slacker Radio user, this would be a welcomed app.

I need an app that allows you to pick up your local radio stations. Both AM and FM all have live feeds through their websites, so i dont think this app would be impossible.

I agree, I was wanting a slacker radio app on my ipod touch. It would be “a welcomed app”, I hope it’s free, but if not I’d still pay for it.

Since Sirus/XM discontinued the Boombox channel I’ve found the music on Slacker to be a nice replacement. Hopefully it will be available on for iPhone/iTouch soon!!!!
