The iPhone 3G gets opened up
July 10, 2008 | Robert Nelson

As promised the team over at iFixit made their way over to Auckland New Zealand and managed to secure the #4 spot in line and have purchased and dissected an iPhone 3G that set them back $979 NZ (about $742 US).
They nicely documented the tear down offering quite a few images showing off all the internal goodies. They have also most likely saved a few other iPhone 3G’s in the process, because after all lots of people are curious, but not everyone is capable of this.
Personally I will not be opening mine up, but based on the images the iPhone 3G seems to come apart quite a bit easier than the original iPhone. Of course that does mean some good news for those DIY types who break their display.
Check out a few of the images below and then (assuming they are still up) click through to check out the rest of the collection.
