During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, stated that the recently launched iTunes Application Store has managed to pull in approximately $30 million during the App Store’s first month online.
Jobs went on to say that the App Store averaged $1 million per day in terms of iPhone/iPod Touch application sales, delivering nearly 60 million applications to customers worldwide.
The most notable applications in terms of sales include Sega’s Monkey Ball, which received over 300,000 downloads in the first 20 days of it being available. Additionally, Epocrates, a medical reference application, has received 125,000 downloads since becoming available.
During this interview Jobs touched on the subject of Apple’s “kill-switch.” A technology that allows them to instantly remove an application from both the App Store, and from any iPhones on which it currently resides.
“Hopefully we never have to pull that lever, but we would be irresponsible not to have a lever like that to pull”
