The latest Apple news comes with both a potential good side and a very real possibility of having a negative effect. Rumor has it that the production of the iPhone has been ramped up to 800,000 units per week for a total of 40 million per year.
This of course means that those still searching for one should be able to get their hands on one soon enough, but the bad news is that the quality may not be what you would have hoped for.
According to a “close to Apple with direct knowledge of the numbers,” Foxconn, the Taiwanese company responsible for producing the iPhone 3G has reached a level that has become “above current full capacity,” which as you may expect could only lead to some less than perfect phones making their way into the retail market.
So when you finally get yours, just be hopeful when opening that box for the first time that everything inside is OK, and also be thankful that Apple offers a 1 year warranty and for the most part stands behind their products when it comes time to having it repaired or replaced. If nothing else adding that extra year of protection with an Applecare Plan may be worth the extra cost.
