Apple’s firmware update 2.0.1 relocked some legally unlocked iPhone 3G’s

While there were plenty of people who were taking issue with the fact that the iPhone 2.0.1 firmware re-locked their phone, most of it should have been expected, especially coming from those who unlocked or jailbroke using one of the available tools like Pwnage. Of course even if AT&T here in the US does not allow your iPhone 3G to be unlocked, there are some International carriers that do and they were the people that are having the issue. It turns out that Vodafone users who paid the extra money to have theirs unlocked for international roaming are finding that they are no longer able to use their phone with another carriers SIM. Effectively locking them back into Vodafone, which is exactly opposite of what they paid for.

There are some reports that users were able to get back to the unlocked state after performing a full restore, but as a whole that does not seem to be the real fix. We can only hope that Apple and Vodafone find a quick resolution to this.
