It looks like some bad news for anyone still holding out hope for seeing the iPhone become officially available with a carrier other than AT&T. The latest reports from USA today are claiming that Apple has agreed to give AT&T exclusive rights to distribute the iPhone until the end of 2009.
Randall Stephenson, AT&T’s chairman and CEO seems to be all for the iPhone, and why would he not be, look what it has done to increase the popularity so far.
He was quoted as saying that they (AT&T) are “all about wireless” claiming that “the iPhone has repositioned AT&T as the premier wireless brand in the world.”
With an agreement until 2010, its only likely that we will likely see yet another generation of the iPhone come available and once again be tied for AT&T. This news, may come as bad news for some, but if nothing else it does help boost the desire of those looking to un-lock the iPhone 3G for use with other carriers SIM cards.
