Around two weeks ago, BestBuy President, Shawn Score projected that BestBuy would begin selling the iPhone 3G on September 7th. (See article)

Well, I can now say with 100% certainty that this is in fact true. As of September 7th you will be able to purchase your very own iPhone 3G “through 970 of BestBuy’s stores, and 16 of its “BestBuy Mobile” outlets.

The following “release notes” were found on BestBuy’s website:

  • iPhone 3G will be available for purchase at over 900 Best Buy stores offering AT&T 3G service.
  • One iPhone per customer.
  • Due to strong demand, they will not be eligible for pre-order.
  • Walk Out Working™ with AT&T plan sign-up and iPhone configuration in store.
  • A large selection of iPhone accessories is now available at BestBuy.com and in Best Buy stores.

I wonder if this explains why I couldn’t make any phone calls last night on my 3G iphone, and I couldn’t get texts to go through even though I had 5 bars and “3G” icon showing on my screen? Could all the new activations be slowing down current 3G iphone users??? Good thing I didn’t have an emergency…
