Movies iPhone app acquired by Flixster

Flixster, the movie oriented social networking site has announced the purchase of the iPhone Movies application. The Movies app allows users to find show times, get directions to theaters and also watch trailers, and has been downloaded a reported 250,000 times.

Since the purchase, Flixster has released an updated version of the Movies app which will allow users to access their movie database. Now users will be able to check older movie titles of 70,000 movies.

A price for the sale has not been disclosed, however in addition to selling the application, the creator Jeffrey Grossman will take a consultant position with Flixster while he is still in school. Either way this sounds like a good move for Jeffrey, but one has to wonder just how much a free app that has 250,000 downloads is truly worth.
