The incredibly addicting and free game Tap Tap Revenge from Tapulous is quickly approaching the one million download mark. Quite an impressive number, but honestly its one that comes as little surprise considering it seems as if the game has remained in the Top 10 Free Apps section within the App Store, and it is currently sitting in the number 10 position.
Tapulous CEO Bart Decrem stated that there is currently “about 5-6 million iPhones and iPod Touches running the 2.0 firmware” which means that Tap Tap Revenge is on about 1 out of every 5-6 devices. An impressive feat, but more important Tap Tap Revenge has also been attracting the attention of a few record labels who are looking towards the game as a way of exposing new music to listeners ears.
Currently users are able to download new songs for free from the game, and roughly 2.5 million songs have been downloaded so far.
Decrem and company have had to become creative in dealing with new music additions, because Apple currently does not allow for developers to sell new content from within their app. They are currently considering offering a premium package of songs, which would most likely lead to a second, and paid version of Tap Tap Revenge making an appearance in the App Store.
While it would be nice to have some more mainstream music in the game, personally I would keep the free version and use it as not only a fun and addicting game, but a way to discover new music.
Tapulous also has a second app available in the App Store, the Twitter client called Twinkle, a very nice app, but sadly it has not seen the same level of success and is still sitting at around 80,000 downloads.
