Many of the details still have not been released, so as of current this cannot be officially confirmed, however a Vietnamese cellphone store has posted some information claiming they have hardware unlocked the iPhone 3G.
According to their reports, they have unlocked the iPhone 3G by “physically altering the handset’s circuit-boards.” So far they have offered some images as proof which claim to demonstrate the iPhone using a local Vietnamese SIM to make a call.
While this should be exciting news, I think when, or if the DevTeam is able to find a software unlocking method that will be the real news. A hardware unlocking such as this will be out of the hands of many people, and truly only help those with expert soldering skills.
