Wikipedia comes to the iPhone in the form of Wikipanion

If you’re an avid Wikipedia user like myself, then you know the importance of being able to access the site at anytime, anywhere. There have been a slew of web applications released with this intent in mind, but what we truly need is a sleek, easy-to-use, native application.

Well, Robert Chin has developed just that, a native application for the iPhone by the name of Wikipanion. Wikipanion makes browsing Wikipedia a breeze, literally. Wikipanion was found to be a much faster browser of Wikipedia than MobileSafari.

Probably the biggest upside to Wikipanion is the fact that it is completely free. There’s nothing I love more than a well-designed, intuitive, and not to mention free, application!

I would have to say the biggest downside to Wikipanion is the lack of ability to edit articles. I really don’t see this as that much of a downside though. So unless you’re a diehard who constantly edits Wikipedia articles, go out and download Wikipanion! [Link]

Wikipanion, while welcome since the demise of comoki, is sadly a pale shadow of the aforementioned webapp. The formatting is awful. Please take some design cues from the webapp and make it cleaner looking.

How many Wikipedia languages are there? How many of those can Wikipanion search? You probably guessed it right when you live outside US/UK. ;-)
