Back on August 14 Wired had put out a request for readers to test their 3G network speed and submit it along with their location, now just a few short weeks later they have published the results.
All in all, the results came from over 2,636 users of which it seems majority were in the US, with some also in Australia, Europe and Canada. The map offers information to include who has the fastest coverage, who has the slowest and what you can expect for an average download speed in a certain area.
Wired summed up the results by stating that;
“the data overall shows that 3G is performing faster than EDGE (which is expected). In the best scenarios, 3G is up to seven times faster than EDGE; in worse scenarios, 3G performed just as slowly as EDGE; at worst, some users couldn’t connect to 3G at all — which isn’t surprising since 3G towers are not yet ubiquitous.”
Of course that is just a quick summary and there are many more details that are worth checking out. Overall there is just a huge amount of data and its all displayed together nicely on a map style layout. You can check out the map, or the Wired article with the links below.
