It was just last week that we saw Apple approaching the 6 million mark for the iPhone 3G, and based on some recent IMEI tracking it seems Apple has sold “at least 5,649,000″ units as of August 30.
Of course this is just the iPhone 3G, however if you take into consideration that Apple had already sold a reported 2.4 million of the original iPhones in the first half of the year this puts them at more than 8 million iPhones sold so far in 2008. With almost a full quarter still to go, it seems they are on track to easily hit the 10 million mark.
Assuming these numbers are accurate, this would almost have Apple manufacturing that 10 millionth iPhone sometime within the coming weeks. Either way its hard to argue that the iPhone 3G has been wildly successful in terms of sales, remember Apple sold just 3.71 million iPhones in all of 2007.

This implies that the 8 million mark is met by the sales of both 1st & 2nd gen iPhones in 2008 only. What about those sold on 2007? Would that not add up to more? 10 million ?
