As a proponent of jailbreaking, this latest message from the unofficial iPhone DevTeam seems worthy of passing on. They are warning of some fake or unofficial websites related to the QuickPwn name, of course this is not a surprise because after all this is the Internet and there are bound to be some less than desirable people around. However, the message comes with a warning to be careful and avoid such sites.
“We would just like to point out that that there are lots of fake sites using the QuickPwn name, these muppets don’t know anything special, and they don’t have anything unique. They are vultures that sit on the domain names and plagiarize content and information in the hope that you donate to them, or click the google ads.”
One thing is not all that clear though, although the DevTeam is offering the warning they have not made any specific mention of anything harmful coming from them, at least yet. They do point out that the official site blog.iphone-dev will never have ads and they will never ask for donations. So based on that it seems they are more worried about people paying for something they could get for free.
Also important to keep in mind is that an unlock for the iPhone 3G is not currently available, so make sure you don’t find a site that is promising that. Overall I would just say that if the jailbreaking tool is not coming from the DevTeam, then you may want to give it a second thought.
